This study considers Jesus’ miracles intensively reported in Matthew 8-9 in the following three aspects: First, how the miracles of Matthew 8-9 are structurally related to their pre- and post-contexts, that is, Matthew presents Jesus in terms of Christology throughout chs. 5-9 as the Son of God both teaching with divine authority and working miracles, and then he unfolds the scene in which Jesus gives the disciples power to do miracles such as expulsion of unclean spirits and cure of every disease and sickness (10:1), and gives them concrete instructions about their missionary works (10:5-42). Second, what situation the Matthean community was in when they encountered the miracles of Matthew 8-9: The Matthean community had to struggle both with the law-free gospel party and with the Jewish sects, which did not believe in Jesus as a divine being equal to God. Lastly, how Matthew reflects the first and second aspects in the miracles of Matthew 8-9. The analysis of the miracle events in Matthew 8-9 will focus on how Matthew edited or redacted those in the Gospel of Mark: Cleansing of the Leper. Mark 1:40–5 vs Matthew 8:1-4, The Sick Exorcised or Healed at Evening. Mark 1:32-34 vs Matthew 8:16-17, Calming a Storm. Mark 4:35-41 vs Matthew 8:23-27, The Gadarene Demoniacs. Mark 5:1-21 vs Matthew 8:28-9:1, Healing of a Paralytic. Mark 2:1-12 vs Matthew 9:2-8, A ruler’s Daughter (Part 1) Mark 5:22-24 vs Matthew 9:18-19, A Ruler’s Daughter (Part 2). Mark 5:35-43 vs Matthew 9:23-26 In conclusion, this study proves that through the miracle stories of Matthew 8-9, located in their structural context of the Matthean Christology particularly emphasizing Jesus as the divine miracle worker, Matthew strongly encourages the Matthean community amid its persecution by other Jewish sects for its faith in Jesus, to strengthen its faith in Jesus and consistently follow him to overcome religious persecution. This study also provides practical application to today’s churches, which are exposed to the threats of the world.

본 연구는 마태복음 8-9장에 보도된 기적들을 선별하여 그것들의 의미를 다음과 같은 세 가지 측면을 고려하여 종합적으로 이해하는 것을 목표로 한다. 첫째, 마태복음 8-9장의 기적들이 전후의 장들과 어떻게 구조적으로 연관되어 있는가. 이와 관련하여 마태는 5-9장 전체에 걸쳐 예수가 하나님의 권위를 갖고 기적을 행하는 하나님의 아들임을 제시한다. 그리고 마태는 예수가 제자들에게 능력을 주어 그들이 부정한 영을 쫓아내고 모든 질병을 치유하는 장면과 (10:1), 예수가 그들에게 선교 지침을 내리는 장면들을 보여준다 (10:5-42). 둘째, 마태 공동체가 마태복음 8-9장의 기적들을 접할 당시 마태 공동체의 상황은 어떠했는가. 이와 관련 하여 마태 공동체는 두 종류의 부류와 적대 관계에 놓여 있었다. 하나는 율법이 배제된 복음을 주장하는 무리였고, 다른 하나는 예수를 하나님과 동등한 신적 존재로 믿지 않았던 유대교 종파들이었다. 마지막으로, 저자인 마태가 앞선 두 측면들을 마태복음 8-9장의 기적 사건들에 어떻게 반영하고 있는가. 마태복음 8-9장의 기적 사건들을 분석 할 때 마태가 어떻게 마가복음의 대응 기적 사건들을 편집 했는지 그 방법에 초점이 맞춰질 것이다. 결론적으로, 본 연구는 마태가 제자도라는 보다 큰 맥락 속에 위치해 있는 마태복음 8-9장의 기적 이야기들을 통해 예수를 믿는 다는 이유로 다른 유대교 분파들로부터 박해 받고 있던 마태 공동체에게 그들의 믿음을 강하게 하고 예수를 일관성 있게 따름으로 그러한 종교적 박해를 극복하라는 강렬한 메시지를 던지고 있음을 입증한다. 아울러 본 연구는 세상의 여러 다양한 위협에 노출 되어 있는 오늘날의 교회에 예수를 쫓는 참된 제자도의 실제적 적용을 제공한다.
